Our story
Rock Raises for Cancer was started as an idea in the Summer of 2023. A group of local residents, some of whom had been affected directly (and indirectly) by cancer or leukaemia, decided to hold a charity auction. This culminated at a gala social event held at The Point on 8th June 2024. In the first year, the chosen recipients were Leukemia Aid, Breast Cancer Awareness, and the Children’s Hospice South-West
What we do
Raise Funds
Finding (preferably local) charities related to cancer support which we in turn can support
Enhance community awareness
We try to appeal across all levels of the local community in and around Rock, Cornwall, and the South-West to benefit those in need
Forge links
By seeking input and donations from both business and personal supporters we try to ensure all can see the help that can be achieved
High Spots so far
The 2024 online auction run through Galabid (see here) has raised over £30,000.
The 2025 online auction raised a similar amount.
So far we have donated to Leukaemia UK, Breast Cancer Awareness, Children’s Hospice South-West, Peninsula Medical Foundation, Cornwall Hospice Centres, Sunrise Centre, Pants Raising Awareness, The Wallace and Gromit Grand Appeal,and Community Cancer Care.
Coming up in the next 12 months
Christmas Fair at the St Minver Community Hub at the end of November. As well as seasonal themed stalls and demonstrations by Paul Ainsworth, Jane Lawrence, Porthilly Spirit and others, this year’s online auction at Galabid (link coming soon) will reach its climax.
